Then I want to hear from you Design Engineer - Air Intake I am currently recruiting on behalf of a client of mine who are a UK Based Leading Luxury Automotive OEM who are located in the South region of the UK They are currently searching for a Design Engineer - Air Intake to join their team on a long term contract basis Design Engineer - Air Intake You will be based onsite the Technical Centre within the Powertrain Systems The successful candidate will be responsible for packaging, detailed design & release of high and low pressure air intake systems inclusive of charge cooling systems on all vehicle projects, from concept to production ensuring the design supports vehicle level requirements and system technical specifications. Design Engineer - Air Intake Long term contract role Paying up to £315 per day Design Engineer - Air Intake Division: Powertrain Systems Location: Woking Purpose of the Role: - Responsible for packaging, detailed design & release of high and low pressure air intake systems inclusive of charge cooling systems on all vehicle projects, from concept to production ensuring the design supports vehicle level requirements and system technical specifications. Principal Accountabilities: Powertrain systems design ownership of: - High Pressure Air intake - Low Pressure Air intake - Charge Cooling system - Work alongside system project engineers to package air intake systems on new powertrain architecture and installations, progressing concepts through to executing detailed designs for prototype and production release and manufacture. - Understands and defines the package constraints for the components. - Working with suppliers, Concept teams & DMU to ensure components and systems meet technical and package targets and to deliver detailed designs on time to predetermined quality, cost and weight targets and within DFM requirements. - Ensures design solutions are optimised to support vehicle assembly & service requirements - Works with other team members to develop component and system specifications. - Works with the other designers and the component supplier to achieve efficient, innovative and lightweight designs. - Works alongside attribute teams to deliver systems that meet NVH, thermal & durability requirements. - Understands system & component requirements for both low pressure (clean & dirty side) and high pressure components within air intake systems. - Ensures the components interface seamlessly to the wider car including structural interfaces, aerodynamics and cooling systems. - Chair cross functional design reviews - Establish and control design release in line with ETRS requirements - Support and evaluate results of component testing - Support powertrain & vehicle development activities - Support vehicle manufacturing - Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews - BOM definition and management to include leading cost & weight reduction initiatives to deliver targets. - Review and manage the opening and closure of design concerns Knowledge, skills and experience - Experience in Air Intake component design and packaging & release. - Detailed knowledge of materials & manufacturing processes employed in Air intake systems. - Excellent CATIA V5 2D/3D skills with strong GD&T application experience. - PC literate and at ease with MS Office products. - Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery - Component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP Qualifications and Training - Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above Personal Attributes: - Core Technical Skills - 5 years automotive design and development - Proven track record of Powertrain component & system design (experience with the detailed systems mentioned above is an added bonus). - Excellent systems design and development knowledge - Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to concept design and solving engineering problems with good attention to detail. - Excellent feasibility assessment skills including design for manufacture and DFMEA input - Life In An Automotive Engineering Company - Experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes - Experience in component release management and problem solving. - Ability to communicate clearly with design and development groups - Good team skills, willingness to work cross-functionally. - Well organised, delivery focused - with demonstrable record of on-time delivery. - Capable of representing a world class automotive brand Personal Attitude - An ability to deliver under pressure with an appetite for success. - A passion for high performance Powertrain engineering. - A positive, proactive attitude, self-reliant with a high level of self-motivation. - An engaging mind, open to new problems outside their normal comfort zone. - A willingness to engage in debate and discussion. - Empathy, a willingness to listen and see others' points of view.
