Do you want to make a positive impact on the lives of children in our West Sussex Children's Homes?
We are currently recruiting to a Residential Night Child Care Worker role, based in one of our homes located in Copthorne.
Beechfield has recently undergone a significant refurbishment throughout and minor extension to the home. Although we are a secure children's home we have strived to create as homely an environment as possible in order to enable the young people that are accommodated by us, to feel cared for and supported, in order to maximise their potential whilst placed with us.
Beechfield provides secure (section 25 of the Children's Act) placements for up to 7 young people. The age range is 13 to 16 years on admission and we are a mixed children's home.
We work hard to create an environment in which young people who have suffered abuse and neglect can feel safe, and can learn to look forward with renewed trust. We work as a Multi-Disciplinary Team which ensures Health, Education and Social Care all work together to support and care for the young people. We make sure that our residents return to the community more adequately equipped to manage the behaviour that led to their admission, thus enabling a successful re-integration into society.
We are now looking for the right staff to join our existing care staff team. This is a challenging role, and does require the ability to work directly with young people, establishing a positive relationship with them in order to enable them to meet targets and desired outcomes to no longer be subject to a Secure Order.
Your main responsibility will be to oversee the welfare of the children in our care overnight. The role involves remaining awake all night and to be available to offer support, reassurance and other care as necessary to ensure the children are able to settle to sleep. There will be a range of other household tasks and duties to complete during your shifts and you will be expected to provide good quality records.
You will need:-
• to be alert to the needs of the young people in our care and mindful of their safety.
• to have a good level of resilience to cope with this challenging but rewarding role.
• to be able to show care, understanding, flexibility and appropriate professional
• to be able to work as a part of a team.
We recognise that our staff are our most valuable resource and offer high levels of support and an extensive training pathway (including the Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People's Workforce) to ensure our teams are equipped to meet the needs and challenges of the children we care for.
You will receive a salary package, including weekend working payments. There is the opportunity and support for all Night Care Assistants to undertake A Level 3 qualification. In addition West Sussex County Council offers an employee benefits scheme and contributory local government pension scheme.
